GHK is an endogenous copper-binding tripeptide with established roles in skin extracellular matrix (ECM) homeostasis; its sequence corresponds to the N-terminal fragment of the collagen α1(I) chain released during collagenolysis. The palmitoyl moiety was introduced to increase lipophilicity and improve transdermal delivery through the stratum corneum. The ingredient is commercialised under the trade name Biopeptide CL™ (Sederma) and appears in numerous anti-ageing cosmetic formulations, often in combination with palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 (the combination marketed as Matrixyl 3000®).
